What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a natural form of medicine that helps your body heal and function the way it was designed to. Very thin, sterile needles are gently placed at specific points on the body to support circulation, reduce pain, calm the nervous system, and restore balance within the body.

It works by stimulating your body’s own healing response — not by forcing or masking symptoms, but by getting to the root cause of what’s going on.

What a Treatment with Kevin Looks Like

At Roots Health & Performance, we don’t believe in one-size-fits-all care. Your body is dynamic, and your treatment should be too. Here is the step-by-step process we use to get you moving, performing, and feeling your best.

Step 1: Your History & Goals

Every successful treatment starts with a conversation. We begin by diving deep into your injury history, daily habits, and specific performance goals. Understanding where you’ve been helps us map out exactly where you want to go.

Step 2: The EXSTORE Scan

Next, we conduct an EXSTORE scan, which is a specialized functional orthopedic testing method. By analyzing your movement and stability, we can pinpoint exactly which neurological and muscular systems are compromised. We don’t just look at where it hurts; we find why it hurts.

Step 3: Muscle Activation

Once we identify the weak or inhibited muscles holding you back, we use targeted techniques to wake them up. By getting these muscles firing correctly, we restore balance to your movement patterns and take the stress off overworked areas.

Step 4: Targeted Tissue Repair

With the foundation set, we address the affected tissue directly to accelerate healing and relieve pain. Depending on your specific needs, this step frequently utilizes:

Dry Needling: To release stubborn trigger points and muscle tightness.

Electroacupuncture: To stimulate nerves, improve circulation, and modulate pain signals.

Step 5: Tissue Mobilization

To ensure your muscles and joints can move through their full, healthy range of motion, we utilize hands-on mobilization techniques. This may include manual therapy, cupping, or Gua Sha to break up fascial restrictions, improve blood flow, and soothe tight tissues.

Step 6: Corrective Exercises

Treatment doesn't end when you get off the table. To lock in the changes we made during your session, we guide you through specific corrective exercises. These movements reinforce your new, healthy patterns so you can stay pain-free and resilient in the long run.
